Dental Exams & Cleanings

Keeping your natural teeth healthy is one of the best things a person can do for their smile. Our Pittsford Family dentists feel that preventive dental care is one of the most important steps in enhancing our patient’s oral and overall health. We provide you with the tools to prevent disease, reverse infection, and limit the need for extensive dental work later on. Not only does this save you money, it saves your smile.

To prevent problems like gum disease and tooth decay, we recommend a preventive care appointment with our hygienists at least every six months. For some people, it may need to be every three or four. Regular assessment of your teeth allows us to intervene early, sometimes when disease is completely reversible.

In addition to monitoring your teeth and gums, routine exams include oral cancer screenings, TMJ evaluations and a complete head and neck exam.

Dental Sealants

A sealant is a procedure that is generally performed on a child with newly erupted, permanent molars if they have very deep pits and grooves, or appear wrinkled on the biting surface. These developmental grooves of the teeth sometimes trap food, plaque, and bacteria that cannot be easily removed by brushing. A sealant is a protective coating that is placed on the biting surface of these permanent posterior teeth. While sealants are not absolutely indicated for all children, they are a cost-effective way to help prevent cavities from developing in these hard to clean areas. After several years, sealants may need to be replaced or touched up due to normal wear of everyday chewing.

Nightguards

During your routine preventive exams, we screen for signs of bruxism and TMJ dysfunction. Bruxism is the word used to describe clenching or grinding of teeth. If you have these signs, we may recommend a custom fit nightguard that we make here in our dental lab. This appliance will alleviate your symptoms while protecting your joint and teeth.

Digital X-Rays

Using the most advanced dental technology possible is just as important as staying up-to-date on the latest treatment techniques. Because our practice is dedicated to providing you with the safest and most convenient treatment options available, we utilize advanced digital X-ray technology in our office. Digital Images are available for immediate viewing on the computer screen for quicker diagnosis.
